About Us

The Trauma Studies Center

In the aftermath of 9/11, clinicians at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy with an interest in trauma came together to learn more about catastrophic life events.

Our first endeavor was to form the Trauma Study Group to learn more about the theory and treatment of trauma. Out of this initiative grew another—a training program that would incorporate the newest findings in the field of traumatology to provide state-of-the-art training to individuals seeking a specialization in trauma treatment. The Trauma Studies Center opened its doors in Fall 2005, and graduated its first class in June 2006.

The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy

ICP, founded in 1971, is one of the oldest and largest not-for-profit mental health training and treatment facilities in New York City. ICP is dedicated to providing high quality therapy at low to moderate cost, to offering post-graduate training for therapists and to educating the public about mental health issues.

ICP has been at the forefront of providing specialized treatment services. The Trauma Studies Center is the latest addition to this family of specialized programs. In addition to its certificate programs in psychoanalysis, dynamic psychotherapy, and family and couples therapy, ICP has training or treatment services for seniors, gay and lesbian clients, and those with eating disorders.
